Back bends are hard for many of us. For some of you, back bends come naturally and strength classes are more difficult. I have no idea what that feels like. For me, this is the challenge of yoga. For me, holding back bends, learning how to sit with the discomfort and persist with breath and intention is the true practice. For me, nowhere in yoga do I develop the skill of equanimity more than in a back bend practice. To say that I enjoy them wouldn’t be truthful, but to say that I need them would be spot on. I challenge you all to embrace those practices that are hard for you. They will teach you more.
